Incredible food, great service in a very nice atmosphere. Unassuming, but well crafted with care right in front of you. Very small restaurant with only 7 seats, and reservations are required since he is booked months in advance. Already have my next reservation on the books!

Laid back, chill vibe but the quality of the fish is excellent! What an amazing experience…worth every penny and the wait! Will do it again in a heartbeat!

Chef Tanaka is a legend. Food was unreal. Who knew Simi valley had a good omakase ! Never driving to DTLA again when I have Tanaka in my backyard !! Highly recommend to anyone who wants a great omakase experience with GREAT quality fish ! Already made a reservation to come back.

What more can I say than an experience to enjoy! Amazing service paired with excellent and elegantly prepared dishes. Each dish more beautiful than the last with a mouthful of heaven to boot! Don't come in thinking this is your typical sushi joint! Oh no, my friend! Make your reservations and prepare for an experience! And don't forget to try the rice or potato based drink. You'll forget all about the sake you've treated in the past. P.S. For those who get to sit at the bar, handy bag hooks underneath make all the little things so much more complete.

Fantastic omakase in Simi Valley. Everything fish that was served was fantastic. Shari was well season and the fish was fresh.

It's hard to believe Sushi Tanaka opened in Simi – it has zero 5-star hotels, and is the same place Joe Dirt (and your humble reviewer) calls home. For sure the Malibu crowd ignores this strip mall Maybe that makes Sushi Tanaka special: serving fish simply, presented with gossamer humility. Let me explain. Take our 3rd/15 Omakase-style feature: Bluefin Toro, the tuna's belly, a fattier and rarer cut. Find it, and the chef may get fancy. But not Chef Tanake. Some sea salt, pepper, and a smattering of soy sauce is all his Toro needs. He steps away from the dish almost knowing it's your first time, keeping it unadulterated. Why belie the root taste and texture of the fish? Perhaps therein lies the genius. Instead of varying Japanese scallop, Sea bream, Splendid alfonsino, or any of the other 15 dishes with side shows, Chef Tanaka presents things as simply as possible. For this, I give him five stars, and can't wait for my next excursion into the delicate and simple.
